Scheduling Factors:

What I wish was factored in to the scheduling was at the end of each season if the coach was contacted and ask them what the future season will look like. Because from a public school perspective, it varies drastically year to year. We may be good one year and then the next year we are starting all over again.

State Tournament Fairness:

I think it’s fine. There is just a huge difference between the first and second rounds where there are competitive games and then you get to the third or fourth round and you get absolutely destroyed because the competition is so different.

Additional Notes

One of the things I would love to see changed is that our schedules will vary year after year. Kirkwood has had the same schedule pretty much for the last seven or eight years. Where as a varsity program we will play that schedule but our JV team hasn’t won a game in. I can’t even tell you how many years. I think they’ve scored maybe five goals during that time as well. Our JV team is not the same skill level as the JV teams that we play with the varsity schedule. Our JV program consists of girls that have either never played field hockey before or our second year players. Changing up our opponents, each year would be very helpful for the growth of our program. It’s difficult for our girls to stay motivated and positive when they lose eight games in a row and do not score any goals.
